John 10:1-5
In our daily lives, we are surrounded by voices—some are loud and demanding, while others are gentle whispers. Each voice vying for our attention shapes our thoughts, emotions, and ultimately, our actions. As we navigate through the cacophony of influences, it’s crucial to reflect on which voice we choose to follow.
Jesus speaks of Himself as the Good Shepherd in John 10. He contrasts the true shepherd with those who do not genuinely care for the sheep. The true shepherd’s voice is one of love, guidance, and protection. As it says in verse 4, “The sheep follow him, for they know his voice.” This profound intimacy is at the heart of our relationship with Christ. He knows us by name, acknowledging our individuality and uniqueness.
When we consider the voices that influence us, we must ask ourselves: Are we following the voice of the Good Shepherd, or are we being led by the many distractions and demands of life? The voice of the cruel taskmaster may echo our insecurities, pushing us to achieve perfection at the cost of our peace.
Discipleship is akin to tending to a garden. It requires knowledge, patience, and hands-on experience. We cannot effectively disciple others if we are not actively engaged in our own spiritual journey. As we learn and grow, we become equipped to share our experiences, insights, and the love of Christ with those who are seeking or struggling.
Spend time in prayer and Scripture, allowing God to cultivate your heart. This is foundational for bearing fruit that others can benefit from. Reflect on your experiences and how God has worked in your life. Your testimony could be the encouragement they need. Look for opportunities to disciple someone in your community. Actively demonstrate the fruits of the Spirit in your daily life. Whether it’s showing kindness to a stranger or exercising patience with a friend, these actions help to plant the seeds of faith in others.
As we go about our day, let us remember that our fruitfulness is a testament to our relationship with Christ and a means to serve and uplift others. Let us be like the trees that blossom and bear fruit abundantly, nourishing all who come near.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Spirit that enables me to bear fruit in my life. Help me to remember that the fruit I produce is not for my own consumption but is meant to bless others. Forgive me for times I have been selfish and not thought of others. Give me the wisdom and courage to disciple those around me, sharing the love and knowledge I have received from You. May my life reflect Your glory and draw others closer to You. You are all that matters. You are worthy of it all! Amen.
